V- JOINT
Aim:
To make a ‘V’ joint from mild steel flat
Work material:
50x10 mm Mild steel flat of size 53mm
Tools required:
a) Measuring and marking tools 1. Steel rule, 2.Vernier height gauge, 3.V Block, Centre punch, 4.Scriber, 5.Surface plate, 6.Try square, 7.Vernier caliper.
b) Cutting tools - Flat file, Half round file, Triangular file.
c) Work holding device - Bench vice.
d) Striking tools- Ball peen hammer.
List of operations:
1 Marking 2. Punching 3. Sawing 4.Filing
Procedure:
01. Copy the given drawing in the work book.
02. Collect the tools and work piece
03. Check the size of the work piece for its suitability to make the model as per the drawing.
04. File the edge to form perfect Rt. Angle with the adjacent side and measuring 51 x 48 mm rectangle
05. Cut the metal into two pieces each measuring 48 x 25 mm
06. Apply chalk coating on both sides and then Transfer the lay out (fig) in the work piece using vernier height gauge punch along the lines using centre punch.
07. Cut the shape using hack saw after giving allowance for filing.
08. File the edges to correct dimension and geometrical accuracy.
09. Finish the joint as shown in the figure.
11. Punch the Roll No. in the finished item (on both the piece)
Result: - Required ‘v’ joint is obtained.
