Expt. No. 5.1
Date:
STRAIGHT LINE CUTTING
Aim: To cut straight line in the given sheet metal as given in the figure
Materials required: 24 SWG galvanized iron sheet of size 90x90 mm.
Tools required:
a) Measuring and marking: 1. Steel rule 2. Try square 3. Vernier height Gauge
4. Surface plate 5. V block. 6. Scriber. 7. Prick punch
b) Striking tools : 1. Ball peen hammers 2. Mallet.
c) Holding tools : 1. Bench vice
d) Cutting tools : 1. Triangular file 2. Straight snips
Operations required: Marking, Trimming, filing and Cutting
Procedure:
1. Copy down the fig of the model in the rough Record and collect the work piece.
2. Check the suitability of collected material to make the model using steel rule.
3. Find out best side using try square.
4. Find out the next best adjacent side and correct the corner to exactly 90 degree
5. Take the work piece to the surface plate and keep the first best side above the surface plate and mark 90 mm by using the vernier height gauge. Similar line to be drawn by keeping the second best side over the surface plate. Using prick punch mark along the line and cut through the line with straight snips.
6. Mark the lines as given in the drawing. Mark over the line with prick punch suitably.
