SQUARE PRISM
Aim: To make a M.S. square prism of 100 mm length and 20mm across flat.
Materials required: 25 mm diameter mild steel rod of length 79 mm, coke or coal.
Tools required: Steel rule, Forge, Anvil, sledge hammer, tongs, swage, outside caliper etc.
Operations to be carried out: Jumping, Flattening.
Procedure:
1. Heat the given material in the forge to red hot.
2. Take out the material from the forge by using sweep and universal tongs.
3. By holding one end of the material place it on the anvil and strike it to flatten slightly on the other end.
4. Rotate the item 90 degree and again strike it to get a square shape.
5. Continue the process to make all along the work piece to get an exact square prism of 20 mm side.
6. Using flatter, make the surface flat and smooth.
Result: The required square prism of 20 mm and length 100 mm is obtained.
